This is Cherokee N5050W that we used to fly the Baja peninsula. This plane is still in use in Alaska, by Victor Laderia of Holy Cross. Before I purchased the plane, it had made it’s way to Panama and back to the San Fransisco bay area, where I purchased it.
That’s Me looking under the hood, to see if all looks good for the trip to the tip of Baja. We spent a week stopping and staying at different airports. This is at San Felipe and as you can see the runway and taxi ways, where just leveled sand. I looked it up on Google Earth and the airport is not even in the same spot and it looks great with paved runways.
One of the airports that we stopped at and stayed, was about half way down the peninsula. I name of the place was, Bahia De Los Angles. We had a lot of fun there with the locals and they played and sang music, way after the generator was shut down at 10:00 PM. The airport is shut down now until, farther notice. Hmmm. I just had some thoughts on why in today’s world.
Here is a link to the information on the place. Click Here
There are many more we stopped at and the one that I remember on the Pacific side, was a bush strip and most of the village came out to meet us.
Enjoy, will post more later, for different adventures.
